Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show, I’m your host Paul aka The Biggest Flash In The Pan on Youtube and in this video we’re gonna be breaking down the Superbowl Trailer For The Flash. Packed with easter eggs, plot details and lots of things that connect to the comics this upcoming movie has a lot going on with it that we need to talk about.
Now the movie has been hit with numerous delays ever since its inception and there’s been a number of directors attached to it. It’s also been pushed back several times but it looks like it came out at the right point as it’s now being used as a device to reset the universe. Flashpoint was a major event in the comics that streamlined the continuity and in the comics, Barry Allen went back in time and saved his mother from being murdered. Unfortunately, this sent out a ripple effect across the universe that caused a number of things to happen differently. For example, Bruce got shot in the alley instead of his parents and thus his dad became Batman and his mother became The Joker. Superman didn’t land in Kansas and he was captured by the government and Atlantis went to war with Themsceria. In the end, Flash went back and allowed his mother to pass away and this then created the new 52 continuity. In it there were some stories kept, some retconned and it allowed DC to have a soft reset. That’s sort of what’s happening in this universe with James Gunn using it as a way to take certain elements of the DCEU but start again with a new continuity.
Flash! ah ah, Saviour of the Multiverse
Now Wayne Manor will be returning from Batman 89 and this is actually Knebworth house located in England. This was changed for Batman Returns but they’ve brought this back for the movie. The gargoyles are exactly the same and you might recognise this from also appearing recently in You Season 4.
In the first teaser for the film, we saw that Barry arrived there in a yellow cab and the licence numbers on it could be references to the larger universe. The licence plate reads 82 OA with the number possibly being a reference to when flash travelled back in time to witness his own origin in 1982. OA is the home of the Green Lanterns and we know that there have been plans for a while now to make them part of the universe. Shoutouts to Ryan Arey for pointing out that the taxi number is 163 and this was the year that Barry Allen first met the reverse flash.
Reverse Flash is obsessed with Barry and he travels back in time from the future to kill him but instead, he murdered his mother. We also know that Barry’s house number will be 12 and this is where Barry met a version of himself who was revealed to be the Dark Flash. Barry in the movie is meeting another version of himself and we know from the funko pops for the film that the dark flash will feature in the film. So It’s theory time theory time theory time.
So I think that the second Barry Allen is probably gonna become that version of the Flash. We know that he dons the Michael Keaton bat-suit and that it gets turned red so that he can become the character. He clearly isn’t the flash in this universe which is why he makes a costume like this and he may not even have his powers yet. So his arc in the film could be that he ends up getting his abilities but these corrupt him and turn him into the evil dark flash.
Anyway, thats the end of theory time theory time theory time.
Crossed Timelines
Now as for Supergirl, I do think that she’s gonna be along the same lines as how Superman was in the original Flashpoint. I actually think that there might be several timelines crossing over with each other and that the timey wimey wibbly wobbly stuff has caused universes to bleed into each other. This could lead to Supergirl being the one who was taken in by the government rather than Clark. She may have replaced Clark in this universe and that’s why the S on her chest looks the same as Clarks does in Man Of Steel and so on. She’s clearly come from the same Krypton and it’s possible that she may have landed before Clark did. Originally in the comics she was sent out before Clark so she may have landed on Earth first.
Now for the next part of the video, I wanna talk about some of the rumoured plot leaks circulating about the film including what its new ending is supposed to be. Ok so originally the leaks for the movie said that Flash ended up going back in time to let his mother’s murder happen the same way that it did originally. Not only did he pick up the son of the year award but this then apparently opened up several branched timelines that he saw when travelling back.
According to the reports he travelled back through the speed force and saw flashes of Christopher Reeve, other versions of Batman and so on. He was meant to return home to find that the Batman of this universe was still Michael Keaton and that Supergirl was there instead of Superman.
The movie apparently ended with Ben Affleck’s voice being heard with him saying that they were out there in another universe and that Barry had to save them.
Then we had the whole thing with Black Adam and Henry Cavill coming back but that was of course scrapped as well. Keaton’s appearance in Batgirl ended with the movie being cancelled and Ben Affleck’s part was said to have been removed from this along with his bit in Aquaman 2.
There were rumours that Affleck was gonna be back as the main universe Batman, taking back over Keaton and f**k knows what DC was doing.
Bat Nipples Return?
Since James Gunn announced his new DCU different rumours have come out and it’s been reported by Grace Randolph that an old Batman actor is returning to cameo at the end of the movie instead. She didn’t let on exactly who it was but teased that it was one of these three.
Val Kilmer has had a number of health problems, Goerge Clooney is over 60 and his Batman wasn’t exactly loved and thus everyone has assumed it’s Christian Bale.
However, since then a lot of scoopers and leakers have said that it’s George Clooney and that we will be seeing the bat nipples in a fun cameo come to the end of the movie. James Gunn has said that the DCU actor will be a new one but according to the leaks, the film will end with Clooney being thawed out of the cooler to bring a cameo that freeze up the flash to travel into any continuity that he wants.
Anyway, I thought that was a big thing to talk about when we’re going over the trailer and that wraps up our video on it.
