AHSOKA TANO Explained | Who Is The Mandalorian ...

AHSOKA TANO Explained | Who Is The Mandalorian Season 2 Character? | Origins, Clone Wars, Rebels & More

If f you’re a fan of Clone Wars or Rebels then chances are you freaked out when you heard the name Ahsoka in the latest episode of The Mandalorian.

But who is she, what are her hopes, her dreams? Well, this isn’t her dating profile so I won’t be telling you but we will be going into why she’s making every Star Wars fan nerdgasm over the mere mention of her name.

Now, to discuss the character we have to travel back to a time before Anakin became Darth Vader. Ahsoka was actually the Padawan of Anakin and together the pair developed an almost brother and sister relationship as he slowly taught her to develop her skills.

Appearance

As a member of the race Togruta, Ahsoka has long tails attached to her head known as Lekku. These Lekku become longer as she ages and in the case of Shaak Ti who is too a part of the species, it’s likely that by the time she appears in The Mandalorian that these will be very long. Ahsoka also possesses the orange skin that is common amongst her species as well as the humanoid-like face that they bear.

The Force

When she was very young, it became clear that she was adept at using the Force and the Jedi came with Jedi Master Plo Kloon to pick her up and take her away from her family. I’ve always kinda found it ironic that they separated children from their families to basically train them as soldiers and were still seen as the good guys. When the Empire did this with stormtroopers they were the ba…and I’m drifting off topic and going into politics.

Speaking of politics though, Ahsoka grew up whilst the galaxy was tearing itself apart amid the Clone Wars. If you’ve seen the animated series then you’ll know that she was a pivotal character in that who helped to destroy the separatist army and also return Mandalore to the people of the planet.

Ahsoka & Anakin

She and Anakin were thrown into the deep end very early on and due to his recklessness at times, the pair often disagreed on strategies and how to approach things. However, over time they gained a massive amount of respect for each other and the pair’s relationship after his transformation does become something that is laced with a lot of complicated subtexts.

This was kinda hinted at by the ending of the Clone Wars which yeah…still get Goosebumps.

Ahsoka’s Abilities

Ahsoka is a master when it comes to using a lightsaber and she’s one of the best with the blade in the entire galaxy.

Initially, she started off by using reverse grip techniques, however, over time she changed this to the more standard method before drifting off into her own signature style known as Jar’Kai.

This involves wielding two lightsabers made up of a standard one which is accompanied by a much shorter blade.

Ahsoka also has a very keen ability to sense things and she can reach far and vast into the force to feel things that some other users of it simply can’t pick up upon.

Ahsoka can leap tall buildings in a single bound and also manipulate Kyber Crystals in a way that very few can. Once she even removed the dark side of one to create a new white crystal and it’s not difficult to see why she’s one of the few remaining Jedi from that era who survived long past Order 66.

Is She a Jedi?

Well, let’s talk about it.

During the Clone Wars, she too became close with Captain Rex of The 501st Legion. Like the rest of the Clone Troopers, Rex was copied from Jango Fett and together they led several successful campaigns against the forces of General Grevious.

Ahsoka really went into things head first and helped to win key victories such as The Second Battle Of Genosis and The Battle Of Mon Cala. However, it wasn’t all twin sunshines and rainbows and Ahsoka was actually killed on the the Ethereal world of Mortis. However, a force-wielder known as The Daughter was able to bring her back by sacrificing herself to return life to the character.

Now a defining moment for the character came when she was framed for the bombing of The Jedi Temple Hanger. Like all good frame stories, Ahsoka fled and set out on a journey to clear her name and though she was able to she lost a lot of faith in the Jedi order who barred her because of the attack.

Of course, they invited her back upon discovering who the true culprit was but Ahsoka actually rejected this and instead became a force-sensitive outcast that identified as neither Jedi nor Sith.

Someone should tell her there are only two force sides in sciences, it’s some bloody SJW bull crap this.

Ahsoka’s Morals

One of the most interesting aspects about Ahsoka is her moral code and it was amazing seeing her tackle doing the right thing whilst also staying loyal to her duties. I think Ahsoka is one of the only major characters to truly question the Jedi and because of this she’s extremely fascinating.

However, she did return to help lead the republic forces during the aforementioned campaign on Mandalore which was one of the highlights at the end of the Clone Wars series. During this time Tano managed to capture Darth Maul and the planet was handed to Bo Katan the Heiress of Mandalore.

I’ve done a full breakdown on the ins and outs of her if you wanna check it out after this as we go into the power struggle that existed on the planet.

Order 66

With Maul imprisoned and the separatist forces defeated, it finally seemed like the Republic could breathe a sigh of relief however as we know, things didn’t go down that way.

Order 66 was enacted and Tano had to fight against the people she’d been fighting alongside in order to escape the carnage. Now I absolutely love all things Order 66 and seeing it from the perspective of all the different Jedi is fascinating to me. Whether it’s the Force Awakens, this or just…just some guy hanging around checking his hologram I think it’s amazing.

If you wanna see all the ins and outs of Ahsoka’s time during the order then I definitely recommend that you check out the final four episodes of The Clone Wars. They work as their own standalone story in my opinion and really fill in all the nuances of the time.

Ahsoka Flees

Anyway, after being betrayed by The Republic, Ahsoka went into hiding and on Thabeska and Raada she watched as the empire rose to power. At this time Ahsoka went under the Ashla which actually is actually a reference to an early name of the light side of the force.

After the evacuation of Raada, Ahsoka ended up joining Senator Bail Organa’s movement and she actually became the manager of his intelligence network.

Ahsoka took on the codename Fulcrum and started to provide intel for the rebels. This is where she really tied into the Star Wars series and that show sort of chronicles the rise of the opposition to the empire. Now during this time she actually came into contact with Darth Vader who unbeknownst to her was her former Master.

It was believed by the rebel forces that Tano had died whilst fighting Vader however the truth is that she was actually pulled through a portal to the world between worlds by Ezra Miller. Tano fought against Darth Sidious who was trying to gain access to the dimension and shortly after she returned to her time.

She promised to find Bridger and after the Galactic Civil War she teamed up with Sabine Wren to track him down.

Now going forward we do learn from Katan that Ahsoka is in the City Of Calodan on the Forest Planet of Corvus, whether this is with Sabine or not we don’t know as of yet but as we haven’t heard any casting news regarding her then I’m still a bit unsure.

Ahsoka in The Mandalorian

Sabine herself was a Mandalorian and I think this will be key in making Ahsoka trust Mando and she will likely be instrumental in training Baby Yoda.

Rosario Dawson is playing the character and it will be interesting to see what she’s been up to since we last saw her. Her voice actually appeared to Rey in the Force Awakens and who knows, this may explain why she was a ghost and not a character in the sequel trilogy.

Ah, man please don’t kill her.
