This article we’re breaking down everything that you need to know about You Season 3.

With the cast still doing their press run for the second season, we’re slowly starting to get tidbits of information regarding what the season could be about, which cast members are returning and when it could be released.

Penn Badgley has also just debunked a major fan theory regarding the shows ending, so there’s plenty to talk about.

There will be heavy spoilers here so if you haven’t had a chance to see the finale of Season Two yet and don’t want to know what happens then I highly suggest that you turn off now.

With that out the way I just wanna give a huge thank you for clicking this video, now let’s get into our breakdown of You Season 3.

You Season 3 Release Date

Ok so firstly, whilst we don’t know the specific release date of You Season 3, going off of the past release dates and how long production takes, we can make an educated guess.

Season One of You actually premiered on Lifetime on the 9th of September 2018.

Lifetime ordered the show to be made in April 2017 so it took over a year to cast, write and produce the show.

Lifetime ordered the second season of the show in July 2018 but after they felt that it underperformed they sold it to Netflix.

Netflix pushed ahead with it and filming began in February 2019 and the second season as we know was released on Boxing Day 2019.

With all of these to weigh up the release times and Netflix’s typical turn around of one year to 18 months, we would guesstimate that the third season will be released early 2021, possibly at the end of January at a push but, if Netflix play their cards right with their marketing, most likely around February the 14th aka Valentines day.

Netflix shows typically release on Fridays so it will likely be released on the 12th in time for the romantic holiday.

This would definitely fit in with the shows aesthetic and if I had to put money on it I would say that this week will be the release date of the third season.

You Season 3 Plot

But what will the third season be about? Well, Penn Badgley recently sat down with Sirius XM to discuss the upcoming season and what could happen with it.

So it looks like the season will be heavily marriage focused and centered around the struggles of Joe and Love coming to terms that they may be slowly falling out of love with one another.

Season 2 did end with a hint that Joe had not found his You and he was slowly becoming obsessed with his neighbor.

Clearly he hadn’t found the perfection that he was hoping for in Love and it turned out that she wasn’t the one that he’d been searching for all of this time.

On my You Season 2 ending explained video, eagle-eyed viewers noticed that the show may have had hidden wordplay in its characters based on their names and the show itself.

Joe is the main character but he changes his name to Will ends up with Love but still goes after You.

Put them together and it says Joe Will Love You.

This could mean that similar to How I Met Your Mother, Joe is actually on a journey to meet You…not you…the person who he will eventually end up with.

In the closing of the season we hear him narrating:

“This is just the beginning because this is where I had to be. Exactly where I had to be to meet you. There you were with your books and your sunshine. So close, but worlds away. I will figure out a way: a way to get to you. See you soon, neighbor.”

So, it clearly could be his You…not you and he will do whatever he can to get her.

This was an awesome cliffhanger to end on and I’ve actually put together a full video on the ins and outs of all the theories floating about in regards to this but Penn Badgley himself has debunked a pretty big one that you may have seen.

You Season 2 Ending

Anyway, You Season Two did have a lot of attention around it’s ending with many speculating that the woman Joe had actually become obsessed over is, in fact, his mother.

This picked up a lot of steam and is probably the most widely accepted theory in regards to who the new mysterious character is.

Her hands seem older, we all know that Joe was separated from her in his youth and there are even moments in the second season in which characters say that we are all just trying to marry our own mothers.

This seemed to be setting it all up for a big reveal but in an interview with Bustle, Badgley flat out denied the fan theory saying “She’s definitely not his mom, I can say that.”

So whilst we know now for definite that it isn’t her, that doesn’t mean that we are really any closer to discovering who this could be.

Is it Beck? Is it Dr. Nicky’s wife? Could Candace be brought back somehow or is it just a completely new character that we haven’t encountered yet?

Who knows but no doubt this will cause a lot of problems between Joe and of course the heavily pregnant Love who is so close to having the family that she’s always wanted.

Milo’s Baby

I actually think in the second season that it will be revealed that Love’s baby is, in fact, Milo’s and not Joe’s and this will send him over the edge and separate the two completely from one another.

In order to try and get him back, Love will try to take out the new woman that has caught his eye and it will once more be a story of death, manipulation, and murder.

It looks like Joe may be the one left standing when the dust settles as Show Runner Sera Gamble recently told The Hollywood Reporter

“We have a lot of stories still to tell. I am not scared at all of saying that we definitely could follow Joe for several more seasons.”

So by the end of the season, Joe could be all that remains.

You Season 3 Cast

As for the cast, there have actually been a couple of things dropped by Gamble that hint to certain plot elements that could be happening.

Now we do know that Love and Joe are 100% back, however, Gamble also dropped a couple of hints that Ellie may return.

We all know that the show sort of left her fate up in the air and she is likely angry that Joe had something to do with the demise of her sister, though she doesn’t know for definite exactly what it was.

When asked if Love’s friends and family would be returning Gamble said

“First of all, I don’t see why not. Part of the fun of Joe is that he is not very good at doing bad things. He doesn’t plan them well. He doesn’t execute them perfectly like a mastermind. And so there is always the worry that things from his past are going to catch up with him. What’s great about that is it creates a landscape for the show where you do get to revisit your favorite characters moving forward.”

Gamble later went on to tell the reporter:

“One of my favorite things to do is bring back a dead person to haunt you. So the door is wide open for everybody’s favorite characters.”

So, it does look like we could indeed be seeing a return of Beck or Candace.

Beck was a big part of season two early on with apparitions of the character haunting Joe throughout his stalking of Love. This climaxed to the point that he even decided to friendzone her for a bit because he was scared of what his obsession could lead to.

If Beck and Candace both return to haunt him then there is definitely a possibility that this will push him over the edge and who knows they might even help to clear his conscience.

Season 3 Final Thoughts

There are definitely a lot of things up in the air at the moment in regards to season three and I can’t wait to see what happens when it call comes crashing down.

You always delivers and if they can keep up the momentum of the first two seasons we could be in for a huge treat when Season 3 is released.

Make sure you keep yourselves locked to the channel for more exciting developments as they happen but hopefully season three brings out a whole new you…not you.
