Hitting the internet today we have a lot of leaks from the first showings Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker as well as answers to one of the big questions which is: Where Did Supreme Leader Snoke come from?
This has plagued…Darth Plaguis…sorry terrible pun, the minds of Star Wars fans since the introduction of the character in The Force Awakens and in this video we’re gonna be breaking down exactly what the leaks say and why it sounds like Disney have dropped the ball on this.
There will be heavy spoilers here so if you don’t want to know anything that could happen in the movie then I highly suggest that you turn off now.
As always leaks like this should be taken with a pinch of salt so it may turn out to be untrue but hey, I guess we will find out when we go to see the film.
With that out the way I just wanna give a huge thank you for clicking this, now let’s get into our breakdown of the leaked Snoke Origin Story.
Rise Of The Snokes
Ok so if you’ve been keeping up to date with all of the leak coverage for The Rise Of Skywalker, you’ll know that the film was originally supposed to open right after the battle of Endor with the Luke and Leia de-aged. This was going to lead to Luke training Leia to become a Jedi but apparently this scene has been taken out of the movie in place of this new opening that resurrects Emporer Palpatine and also discusses the ins and outs of Snoke’s origin.
This story comes from the website MakingStarWars.net which has been covering a lot of the leaks over the past month and so far it’s reported on a bunch of things that have ended up making their way to the trailers ahead of time.
Basically, if the internet was Star Wars, this would be Luke Skywalker when he’s training on Dagobah.
Snoke Origin Leaked
The website says that in the opening of the movie Kylo Ren lands on Exegol and he walks across the stormy plane of the dead world.
We do see him walking on a snowy planet in the trailer so this is apparently from that moment.
He passes a giant floating cube about thirty feet in the air. This place is weird. The evil son of Solo then takes a lift down. But this is where things go from weird to insane. I mean really insane.
As Kylo explores the area he encounters these small creatures that are tending to the capsules or barrels called The Relics.
Inside these barrels, Kylo sees the body of former Supreme Leader Snoke. However, he was killed and disposed of. These are all clones. I’m told the explicit implication is Snoke has always been a clone. There are too many barrels full of Snoke clones to count. I think it is safe to say that Kylo Ren has a bad feeling about this.
Kylo then comes upon an old man in a bed. The old man claims to be Darth Sidious. Kylo doesn’t believe him and ignites his sabers and puts it to this throat and the old man laughs at him. The old man looks up and reveals the Sith fleet that waits for him above the planet.
A convinced Kylo Ren listens to the Sith Lord and Darth Sidious orders Kylo Ren to kill Rey. That is his first and only mission. Kylo asks what is so special about Rey and Palpatine says he will find out all too soon. Later in the film when Kylo does find Rey, Kylo tells Rey that Darth Sidious ordered him to kill her but he’s to not going to do it. This is proof there’s still good in him.
Snoke Was A Clone
Ok and that’s all the information that we get on the scene. So there you have it, Snoke was a clone this entire time and in my opinion, it just makes no sense at all. Mr H Reviews reported on this story earlier in the day and he said that it doesn’t really make sense to clone an old and decrepit being which I completely agree with. Snoke is just so old, decayed and basically it makes no sense to make duplicates of a quivering old man.
Now building upon that point, if you’re going to clone a character like Snoke then I don’t know why you wouldn’t just do the same with someone like Darth Vader. Why not have a full legion of Darth Vader clones that you can use to take out the Galaxy?
It just wreaks of them not planning ahead and making it up as they go along and in all honesty, this issue has really been a problem with Star Wars in the past. You can tell that some of the films were made without the creators even thinking what the next one would be and I think that this is massively demonstrated here in the case of Snoke.
Once you can just resurrect any character with ‘cloning’ it makes every death pointless. Characters can now just be brought back to life. If Palpatine dies at the end of the movie as well they could always just bring him back again down the line so it’s stupid. What is to stop Palpatine just cloning himself forever until he eventually comes into a scenario where he wins.
Clones, Time Travel and plot devices like that break the universe because it makes everything become completely inconsequential.
What this move does is that it really devalues Snoke as a character as well, going back and watching The Force Awakens you will just be like ‘ah he’s a clone who cares’ so retroactively the universe that JJ built really no longer matters.
I know we always knew that in some form or another Snoke would eventually end up being a puppet but he could have still been a one-off creation that Sideous was controlling from behind the scenes.
Having a clone doesn’t really make a difference, especially as we have only ever seen the one incarnation of him. If they’d brought him back for this movie then that would have made sense on some levels but by the sounds of it, he is just going to be confirmed as a clone and then cast to the side so it doesn’t really make sense that they even cloned him in the first place.
Again this wreaks of bad writing and all of the goodwill that I have for the franchise kinda goes out the window with this move.
Darth Sideous Is Rey’s Grandfather
Now the whole Sideous plan is apparently going to be that he wants to manipulate Rey and get her to turn to the Dark Side by pushing her to a point where she has to. We have seen images of Dark Rey so this has always been a plot motif that would at least in some form or another pop up in the movie.
This is all meant to be a plot that will push Rey into taking his place because dun dun dun, Rey is actually Palpatine’s offspring and he is the one who created her.
Whether this will be similar to how he created Anakin we don’t know but the leaks do say that Rey is a Palpatine and that even Leia and Luke knew this upon meeting her.
This is sort of meant to tie together with the scene in which Luke and Leia are training but the website does also report that Rey is a Palpatine.
The movie is apparently going to end with Ren and Rey teaming up to take him down and we have seen in leaked images that this does happen. I can’t post them here because Disney has been blocking videos that do.
Again though all this Clone stuff does is show that Disney doesn’t really know what they’re doing and by putting in plot devices like this, they massively devalue their own universes and characters.
If Palpatine does indeed die then what’s to stop them bringing him back again in twenty years’ time? Nothing, so the conclusion just no longer holds the weight that it should because there’s no finality. It just leaves everything with a lack of weight to it and after all the goodwill that has been built up with properties like The Mandalorian and Jedi Fallen Order which did restore my faith once more in Star Wars, this just feels like it’s going to go off and dash it all away.
Why This Is Bad
I know I’m having a huge moan here and probably coming across like an idiot but if this was always going to be the case with Snoke I wish they’d just not introduced him and they’d have had Emporer Palpatine come back as the villain for The Force Awakens because all this ‘it was me the entire time’ stuff feels like lazy writing that massively devalues everything that should feel like a worthy climax to the sequel trilogies.
I’m hoping and praying that this turns out to be untrue but going off the things that we’ve heard, behind the scenes issues, reshoots and script leaks this does line-up. Search your feelings you know that this is the kinda thing that they are gonna do for the film and yeah it just sounds like it’s gonna suck, which is a shame because this could have answered a lot of questions well rather than just taking an easy way out without putting any real thought into it.
