WESTWORLD SEASON 3: How It Should Have Ended

WESTWORLD SEASON 3: How It Should Have Ended

The third season of Westworld has come to a close and has left many unanswered questions. I really enjoyed the show, but I think the season should have ended differently.

That’s not to say that the writers did a bad job; shows should always give you what you need instead of what you want but it’s still fun to use our imaginations.

So, let’s view this as one possible scenario in Rehoboam’s mirror world in which we the fans get to give our feelings on how the season should’ve ended.

Obviously, there will be Heavy Spoilers here so if you still haven’t seen the third season yet then I highly recommend that you turn yourself offline and go check out the show.

Serac Brothers

To talk about how we would’ve liked to have seen the show ending, we have to go back to the start and talk about the Serac brothers.

Ok so after seeing their home destroyed, the pair decided that they had to save humanity from themselves and thus they built Rehoboam. Using Liam Dempsey Seniors’ money they bought data from the owner of Delos aka William and were able to create an algorithm that charted a course for every person on the planet.

However, they ran into a snag, at certain point humanity would come to an end. No matter what simulation they ran this always happened and the defining moment that they were able to trace it back to was the rise of the hosts in Westworld.

The algorithm predicted that the first host, Dolores would escape the park and through using a human would bring it all crashing down.

There was absolutely no way to get around this, no matter what preventative measures they put in place, Dolores and this unknown person would completely destroy the human race.

To make matters worse, due to the radiation that they suffered at the hands of seeing their home destroyed, the two were living on borrowed time. We could see in the flashbacks that the radiation surrounding the fields of Paris was enough to kill the cows there and though Jean-Mi was able to be fixed, Egnerraund was living on borrowed time.

It seemed like neither would be able to save humanity.

Serac’s Plan

So they enacted a plan, a little experiment, if you will, to stop this.

Identifying his brother as an Outlier Egnerraund decided to use his AR technology to wipe his memory and give him a new identity. We did see in his re-education centres that those identified as such were given completely new backstories and shipped off to the army.

Serac found the perfect fit, a soldier that had been killed in Crimea, and whose mother had schizophrenia.

Serac took this man’s life and memories, implanted them within his brother and then completed reconstructive surgery on him so that facial recognition software would not recognise him. This was now prevalent throughout the world and Serac needed to put this in place to make sure his brother was never found.

Serac planned to place his brother as the saviour of humanity so that when it came down to it he could be woken up and defeat Dolores from enacting her plan.

Serac gave him the identity of Caleb Nichols and sent his brother off on a path that would lead to him being at the forefront of the host uprising.

Caleb was a spy in the bible and due to the brother’s fascination with Solomon, Rehoboam and stories of that nature, it seemed like the perfect fit.

Caleb is Serac’s Brother

Yes, we’re doing Caleb is Serac’s brother but bear with me.

This new life was reinforced within Jean-Mi through a program known as Francis who was a friend of the real-life Caleb and Caleb’s mother, though she knew something was off with her son, was ignored due to her mental illness.

Jean-Mi too possessed Schizophrenia so should it develop within him it would be merely seen as being hereditary.

Serac succumbed to his radiation poisoning but he was able to upload his consciousness into Rehoboam which through the use of holograms made it seem as if the character was still alive.

I know this is kinda cliched but I did feel like the finale kinda robbed him of his cool factor, mainly because it relegated him to a puppet. I didn’t like it when they did this to Bane or Snoke so yeah, let me please keep this guy as a cool villain…even if he is a hologram.

He was able to fool the world and those around him using simulations, something he was able to create without those knowing they were part of one.

Delores Escapes

Dolores escaped the park and then using her copies she infiltrated all aspects of society. The Hale copy still ended up going rogue and the key to the forge was kept within Bernard.

Dolores believed that Caleb was an outlier that she could use to bring down Humanity and this tied back to her speech on the Judas cow to Teddy in Season 1.

In the very first episode when Dolores and Teddy were looking over cattle, Teddy asked how they managed to lead and heard them. Dolores said that you had to pick a Judas Cow to lead them and that the rest would follow.

In our imagining her plan the entire time in Season 3 tied back to this line and she wished to choose a saviour that would lead humanity to the slaughterhouse. They would do this by turning off the machine that was stopping them from descending into chaos and when left to their own devices they would bring everything crashing down.

Dolores led Caleb on a mission to discover the truth of Rehoboam and what Serac had been up to.

Things then played out much the way we saw in the finale however upon arriving at the Re-education centre. Serac knew this would happen so he set up a fake reveal for the character in which he would believe that he was an outlier that had been used to kill other outliers. Maeve arrived to take Dolores out but she managed to stop her by using an EMP.

Caleb then took her pearl to a backup body that she had and the two set out to destroy Rehoboam.

Caleb Revealed

However, upon arriving there, the A.I. god revealed its true face and unearthed that Caleb was really Jean-Mi. This plan had been put in place to stop Dolores dead in her tracks just as she reached the machine so that they could upload the forge data that they believed to be in her head directly into it.

This would grant Rehoboam even more data on human behaviour and thus it would be able to accurately predict everything.

The reveal came as a huge blow to Caleb who realised he had been living a lie this entire time.

However, Caleb or rather Jean-Mi had been given a new perspective. Because he had seen how bad society could be at the bottom he decided to go against the original plan laid out by his brother and he joined Dolores in her mission to save humanity.

This showed that Caleb had truly gained free will.

He freed her from the machine and thus unknowingly doomed humanity to its fate fulfilling the prophecy that Rehoboam had laid out.

I dunno why but in time travel stuff and things involving predictions I always love when people try to prevent the future from happening and then end up causing it. I would’ve loved to have seen this in the show just to show how accurate Rehoboam’s prediction really way.

Anyway, realising that his brother was dead and that their plan was folly, he ordered Rehoboam to shut down the hologram of Serac. Dolores said that he had saved the world and that he’d stopped Rehoboam from gaining the data just in time and that he truly was the saviour of humanity.

Double-Crossed

She promised that using the data that only she had access to, they could plot out a strategy that would allow hosts and humans to live together.

This too was all a ruse and it was revealed to us that Dolores did not actually have the data. She had hidden it within Bernard who had been given a device that was able to access the forge. This also would put him into hibernation so that he could wait out the end of the world, though he would not know this before donning it.

She had kept the key to all of this hidden away and had used Jean-Mi as a pawn. Though everything didn’t go according to plan and the Jean-Mi reveal was surprising to her too, in the end, she had got what she wanted.

But what should they do now?

After all, they had this machine that could control humanity.

Well, this is where the fifth and final Dolores pearl comes into play.

Throughout the season we saw that Dolores planned to replace high-ranking members of society with duplicates and this was carried out on several levels. It was so ingrained into her that even Hale carried this out on the Man In Black.

I would’ve loved to have the season end with Dolores revealing that her final duplicate was actually Serac.

Before the events of Season 3, Serac had hidden away from society, purely because he no longer existed.

However, Dolores’s plan had forced the hologram to emerge and acquire Delos, thus people now knew of the character though they did not realise he was a hologram.

Dolores brought forth her final pearl to assume the position of the owner of Delos and Rehoboam and he would be the fact that she showed to the world, similar to how Rehoboam had used him as its face.

This would mean that Dolores now was the one secretly controlling Delos from the shadows and she had come full circle from being a slave at the bottom within the park to now being the company’s ruler.

Using Caleb as a pawn she set out on a path to destroy humanity. I would’ve loved it if the season had ended with us knowing that she really was the villain and the tension would come from wondering whether Caleb would discover this in any future seasons.

Thus we would end up not knowing whether humanity was really doomed or whether there was a way to stop Dolores, a host that now controlled Delos and the machine that ruled over the species.

I know it’s very nihilistic and probably not as nice as the slightly more positive ending that we got but hey, I guess I’m a bad guy too.

Now obviously I’d love to hear your thoughts on our video and if you would’ve liked to have seen it or not. I’m expecting people to just say this is crappy fan fiction so if you have your own ideas on what you would’ve liked to have seen in the ending then make sure you leave them in the comments section below.
