Fan Theory About The Suicide Of Brian Cox’ Wife

Check out my review of The Autopsy Of Jane Doe as well as my thoughts on what the meaning of the film is and it’s ending. The Autopsy Of Jane Doe Ending Explained video is my thoughts on it, whether they are right or wrong is for you to decide.

This is a brillaint horror movie that you definitely shouldn’t overlook. In all honesty it is one of the best horror films that i’ve ever seen and really solidifies the genre as one of the best after we’ve had years of ‘jump scare’ heavy movies like Annabelle and Sinister.

The film focuses around ‘Jane Doe‘ who get’s brought into a mortuary to be examined. Upon opening up the corpse we discover things are not quite as they seem and strange things begin to happen.

The two Coroners soon discover that whilst on the outside, ‘Jane Doe’ looks fine, on the inside she has been tortured, mutilated and destroyed in several sadistic ways.

[spacer height=”20px”]

To me this is a metaphor for the morgue that the two scientists find themselves trapped in. On the outside things look fine, whilst inside all hell is breaking loose. This is cemented later in the film when the policemen remark that the weather was fine, something we know to be contradictory to the character’s experience. Almost every element in the film has the appearance of being pristine and in order whilst hiding a darker undertone beneath the surface.

This ties in heavily with the fact that the Coroner’s wife comitted suicide.

The Wife’s Suicide Theory

I also believe that ‘Jane Doe’ is a manifestation of Brian Cox’ character’s guilt over his wife’s suicide. He states that from the outside she seemed happy and pleasant but inside she dealt with depression, anxiety and a general feeling of unhappiness. This lead to her suicide whilst also following the motif that on the outside everything looked ok whilst being juxtaposed by inner turmoil.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Depression is something that rarely manifest on the surface. It is an inner struggle that people who suffer from it deal with. The fact that he was ignorant to the turmoil that was going on within his wife’s mind has come back in an almost karmaic response through the form of Jane Doe. She sadistically destroys characters within their own minds, leaving them unharmed on the outside for the majority of the film.

[spacer height=”20px”]

To me Jane Doe is the physical manifestation of his wife, she has come back to torture the husband and son who ignored her in her moment of need. Making them going through the same things that she went through, much in the same way that Jane Doe wrought the terror inflicted on her to her victims.

  • Except they both, independently, note that the brain tissue is alive.
Also none of that theory explains the tooth in cloth, the tattoed skin, etc…
If it was just this physical manifestation of his guilt over his wife’s suicide, then why all the occult references?
That doesn’t gell, it doesn’t mesh.
