Star Wars: Darth Vader: Volume. 3 - The Shu-Torun War Review

The Star Wars: Darth Vader graphic novel run is really starting to find its feet.

The first two books in the saga really rejuvenated my interest in the villain, however, there is only so much that one can do with a prequel story…as the Star Wars prequels already showed us.

Throughout this review, I will be letting you know whether the Darth Vader run makes the Star Wars second best trilogy or if this Sith Lord should just skip to Return Of The Jedi.

There will be heavy spoilers here so if you don’t want to know anything then I highly suggest that you jump to the score and come back to this review at a later date.

With that out the way let’s dive into The Shu-Titan War!

Shu-Toran

We open with Vader traveling to Shu-Titan to meet with tthe planet’s leader This is a trap and the King Of Shu-Turan quickly throws all he can at Vader in an attempt to stop him before he can reach the throne room.

Vader of course, makes quick work of all obstacle and those craving action from the character will not be dissatisfied. This is quintessential Darth Vader and I adored watching him tear through all Defenses and obstacles with ease.

Vader appoints a new leader for the planet, tossing the last remnants of Alderaan at them as a reminder of what happens when you mess with The Empire. It’s an outstanding opening that instantly had me gripped and onboard with the character once more.

Rebels On All Side

Putting a new leader in place causes a divide on the planet that Vader is responsible for and must therefore oversee. The second chapter of the story centres around him crushing the rebels and resistance that rise to take out the newly appointed Queen and it’s a blast from start to finish.

With Vader winning so many battles, jealousy rises within the Empire and other commanding officers stage a coup in order to betray the one once known as Anakin Skywalker.

The might of the Empire comes at him thick and fast and it’s breathtaking to behold him battling soldiers, Jedi and ships across the book’s finale.

It’s a cracking way to end the story and one that beautifully teases the next to come in outstanding fashion.
