Marvel Full Slate Breakdown | All Confirmed & Rumored Upcoming MCU Movies And Shows

The upcoming Marvel slate is huge. There are so many confirmed, and rumoured projects, so let’s jump straight in. We’ll look at what’s on the horizon and what we can expect from each project.

Strap yourselves in, it’s a long one!

Black Panther

First off we have Black Panther Wakanda Forever, slated for an 11th November release later this year. I’m really interested to see how they handle the loss of Chadwick Boseman in the now-iconic role. With a whole host of characters to return to and with the success of the first movie, I’m sure this will be another massive success.

Black Panther a true black superhero

Holiday Specials

Next, we have the one-hour Halloween special Werewolf by Night coming to Disney plus later this year, starring Gael Garcia Bernal, still not sure of an exact release date for this one yet. However, filming wrapped in April and it definitely sounds like one to keep an eye out for.

We also have another Disney plus special hitting our screens this year in the form of the Guardians Of The Galaxy holiday special, once again with James Gunn at the helm. This special is set to take place between the events of Thor Love and Thunder and GOTG vol3 I’m really looking forward to seeing the return of this bunch o’ chumps.

The Marvels

Then we move to 2023 and we have The Marvels set for release, based on the characters Captain Marvel, Ms Marvel, and Monica Rambeau. It is intended to be the sequel to Captain Marvel and a continuation of the Disney+ series Ms Marvel.

GOTG 3

Next, we have Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3, scheduled to be released in the United States on May 5, 2023. We see the return of the team alongside Sylvester Stallone and Will Poulter will be entering the franchise as Adam Warlock, really interested to see this character introduced after the tease in the post-credits scene of GOTG Vol 2.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is scheduled to be released in the United States on February 17, 2023. Seeing the return of Peyton Reed at the helm and Paul Rudd as Scott Lang alongside the rest of the cast returning. However, we also know we will be seeing the return of Jonathan Majors as Kang The Conqueror after last seeing him in Loki as he who remains. Bill Murray has also been cast in an undisclosed villain role which I can’t wait to find out more about.

Blade

We next see the return to the cinema screens of Blade, pencilled in for a 2023 release, for the first time since Wesley Snipes in 2004’s Blade Trinity. Mahershala Ali will be taking up the role of the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, after debuting as a voice cameo in the post-credits scene of the Eternals in 2021.

Deadpool 3

Now slated for a 2024 release is Deadpool 3, which will officially see the Merc with the mouth introduced to the MCU, and yes it is Disney and yes it will officially be rated R, in keeping with the previous movies. It’s still in development, but Ryan Reynolds did suggest in August 2021 that the movie would start filming in 2022, We also now know that Reynolds will reunite with Free Guy and The Adam Project director Shawn Levy on the threequel as Levy will be directing. I can’t wait to see how the character is brought into the MCU.

Fantastic Four

2024 is also set to see the return of the Fantastic Four, after John Krasinski’s Illuminati cameo in Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness, everyone is eager to see him once more reprise the role of Reed Richards, whether he will is still unknown but it seems likely, after going out like a wet bowl of spaghetti last time round its only right he gets to redeem himself, surely?

Captain America 4

Captain America 4 is another project confirmed to be in the works, with a possible 2024 release. Following on from The Falcon and The Winter Soldier series. On August 18, 2021, it was reported that Anthony Mackie had closed a deal to star in the film.

It was also reported that the film would begin production in May 2022.

Shang-Chi 2

Shang-Chi 2 was confirmed in December 2021 although it doesn’t have a release date yet. Marvel Studio has already mapped out its Phase 4 movies, so we can put a ring or ten around that one for now. While nothing’s been confirmed, it seems likely that both Simu Liu and Awkwafina will be in Shang-Chi 2, especially given the way the first movie ended. We also know that the Ten Rings will return, which means Xialing, will likely be back as well.

Spider-Man 4

On November 29, 2021, Amy Pascal confirmed that Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios were set to begin development on a fourth Spider-Man film. She revealed that we can expect more Spider-Man films starring Tom Holland, set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. On December 18, 2021, Kevin Feige officially confirmed that a fourth Spider-Man film which will be part of a new trilogy was in active development.

She-Hulk

Now we move on to the confirmed Tv Series lined up over the next few years, starting with She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, which is scheduled to debut on Disney+ on August 17, 2022, and will consist of nine episodes, concluding on October 12. After receiving a bit of stick online for some dodgy CGI in the first trailer, it will be interesting to see how She-rek comes across once it has been released.

I Am Groot

I am Groot the photorealistic animated series is set to hit our screens later this year on Disney plus too, with each episode set to follow Baby Groot as he grows up and goes on adventures with new and unusual characters. The official artwork was released recently and has been doing the rounds across the internet, showing baby Groot chilling in shades and headphones with a cocktail, and with James Gunn serving as an executive producer on the series, Feige said he was excited about a planned story for Groot to return to his home Planet X.

Secret Invasion

Secret Invasion is set to explore a world in which the newly-introduced Skrulls have begun infiltrating Earth, already confirmed to have cast Emilia Clarke, Olivia Coleman and Kingsley Ben-Adir as the lead villain. Alongside the likes of Samuel L Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn. Who was responsible for introducing the Skrulls into the wider MCU, Mendelsohn gave a brilliant performance, and teaming up with Jackson’s Nick Fury will surely pave the way for more memorable moments in Marvel’s Secret Invasion.

Echo

While there’s no trailer yet for Echo, Marvel Studios did release some art of the title character. The image was released with an announcement that the show was currently in production as of May 2022 and would drop sometime in 2023. It will be interesting to see how this one pans out after last seeing her at the end of hawkeye having apparently shot Wilson Fisk.

Ironheart

According to reports, Ironheart will start filming in June 2022.

With Riri “Ironheart” Williams set to make her live-action debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever on November 11th, this means the series could possibly hit streaming in late November or sometime in December.

Armor Wars

After years of standing by as the sidekick of Tony Stark, Rhodey (AKA War Machine) is finally getting his moment to shine. Don Cheadle will star in Armor Wars, yet another upcoming live-action series over on Disney Plus possibly in 2023.

What If…? Season 2

When What If…? Season 2 was first announced on Disney+ Day on November 12, 2021, nothing specific has been revealed about its release date other than the season is coming “soon.” However, executive producer Brad Winderbaum did state back in August 2021 that they hope to release a new season annually.

Loki Season 2

The Second Season of Loki was officially announced on July 14, 2021. It is scheduled to premiere on Disney+. During the Disney’s Upfronts 2022 presentation, Feige took the stage to talk about what the MCU has in store. He revealed that Season 2 of Loki will begin production in the next few weeks. More importantly, he confirmed that the entire main cast is coming back for the second instalment. Absolutely loved the first season so can’t wait for that one.

X-Men ’97

X-Men ’97 was announced on Disney Plus day and will see the return of the 1992 animated X-Men series, and as far as we know the plot will continue where the original series left off, with the majority of the voice actors returning to their roles. As a huge fan of the original series, I can’t wait to see this, especially after that Patrick Stewart entrance and a little blast of the theme tune as we saw the 97-style Professor X yellow hoverchair glide on screen in Doctor Strange recently.

Agatha: House of Harkness

Agatha: House of Harkness is another upcoming Disney Plus spin-off series following Agatha Harkness from Wandavision. During Disney+ Day 2021, we heard that a new series called Agatha: House of Harkness was in development for Disney+ with Kathryn Hahn set to reprise her role as the title character.

Untitled

There is also an as of now untitled Wakanda series confirmed with Danai Gurira as the only name attached so far, Ryan Coogler is said to be developing the TV show set in the kingdom of Wakanda for Disney+, however, no further details for the upcoming spin-off series are currently known at this point.

Spider-Man: Freshman Year

The animated series “Spider-Man: Freshman Year” is on its way to Disney+ and will take MCU fans back to Peter Parker’s early high school days. Back in November of 2021, “Spider-Man: Freshman Year” was officially announced during Disney+ Day.

According to reports, the series will follow a freshman-aged Peter Parker “on his way to becoming Spider-Man” and will be based on the character’s comic book roots.

Marvel Zombies

Marvel Zombies is another one fans have been clamouring for and were given a teaser of in the What If…? episode. The blurb for the series states that it re-imagines the Marvel universe as a new generation of heroes battle against an ever-spreading zombie scourge. As a big zombie movie fan, I am particularly interested to see how this one develops.

Rumoured Offerings

Right with all those confirmed releases out of the way, now we can delve deep into the rumour mill and chuck some projects out there that could be on the horizon, as always take these with a pinch of salt, but my guess is there will be some definites in here I’m sure, alongside some sure-fire Ralph Bohners.

Nova

So will we be likely to see a Nova movie in the future? Well yes, this one isn’t so much of a rumour anymore having recently been announced that Moon Knight writer Sabir Pirzada will be bringing the character into the MCU. At this point, we don’t know if Nova will be a series or a movie, but excitement is already building. Having already received a glimpse of Nova in Guardians of the Galaxy, in which the Nova Corps played an important role.

World War Hulk

There is rumoured to be a World War Hulk project in the works and it is said to be a film adaptation of the World War Hulk graphic novel. While Marvel has yet to confirm the project, the rumour mill is going wild and it’s such a massive story that I hope it gets brought to the big screen.

Thunderbolts

Now, several characters from Marvel Comics’ Thunderbolts are already in the MCU, and with Val having been on a bit of a recruiting spree bringing former Captain America John Walker aboard and renaming him U.S. Agent. Black Widow also revealed that Yelena Belova works for Valentina, so I have no doubt, that more will join their ranks and they could form the crux of the MCU’s Thunderbolts.

Illuminati

After the cameo appearances of the Illuminati in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness were dispatched quicker than a bowl of mom’s spaghetti, I really should stay tight-lipped on this one, but could we potentially be seeing them return in a project of their own? With characters such as Reed Richards, Professor X, and Captain Carter unveiled and destroyed in a blink of an eye, it would be great to see them again with the possibility of redeeming themselves.

Eternals 2

While Eternals 2 is certainly set up by the first movie, whether we’ll get to see it remains to be seen right now. The credits scenes revealed the sequel could have a watermelon sugar burst of star power in the form of Harry Styles, who made his MCU debut as Eros, aka Starfox, aka the brother of Thanos. He was joined by the extremely iffy-looking CGI of Pip the Troll, who was voiced by Patton Oswalt so we have to assume he’d also return. They could also well be joined by the Black Knight as the post-credits scene sees Jon Snow, sorry Dane Whitman go to touch the Ebony Blade.

Mutants

We know that it is only a matter of time before mutants are a part of the MCU, after seeing Patrick Stewart appear as Prof X in Doctor Strange 2, every X-Men fan is theorising how we will see the mutants join the MCU, as of yet there is nothing concrete but we pretty much know it’s coming sooner or later.

Namor the Sub-Mariner

Avengers Endgame also teased the introduction of Namor as Okoye mentions that there were underwater earthquakes off the coast of Africa. Now MCU fans seem to think that the villain of Wakanda Forever will be Namor the Sub-Mariner. The character has been rumoured to be in the Black Panther sequel for well over a year now, with actor Tenoch Huerta rumoured to be playing the role.

Silver Surfer

Rumours of a Silver Surfer project could also be on the horizon, with stories of the character set to appear in the Nova project and or also The Fantastic Four movie. We last saw him on screen in 2007’s Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer, and the less said about that the better I think.

Ten Rings

Now Daniel Richtman has revealed that a Ten Rings series is in development at Marvel Studios. He added that Shang-Chi’s sister Xu Xialing will be the series lead. This could give room to expand on the history of the rings, and looks like it could also serve as the direct follow-up to the first Shang Chi movie.

Ghost Rider

Next, we have Ghost Rider, and Johnny Blaze has become somewhat of a cult favourite over the years after the depiction by Nicolas Cage, fans are always calling for more. But will we see a series for the character, could it be tied into the midnight sons, who would be taking up the role, it’s all just speculation at this point but it would be great to see the character return.

Young Avengers

So, potential Young Avengers team members have been popping up in the MCU since as far back as 2015’s Ant-Man, from Cassie Lang, up to the present day with Kamala Khan, Kate Bishop, Billy and Tommy from Wandavision and even America Chavez amongst others. So, could all this be building towards a Young Avengers team in the not-so-distant future? Let’s hope so.

Nomad

Marvel Studios is potentially developing a project based on the classic character, Nomad. Having recently trademarked the phrase “Marvel Studios Nomad” alongside lots of terms for other new projects, this looks like something that is more than likely also on the horizon. It could be introduced as a spin-off from The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, with possibly either Bucky or Wyatt Russell’s US Agent taking on the Nomad persona.

Secret Warriors

Rumours say that one of the shows currently in development that Marvel has yet to announce is a Secret Warriors series. In the recent animated movie called Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors, the team included Quake and Ms Marvel with Squirrel Girl, America Chavez, Patriot, Inferno, Exile, Captain Marvel, and Hala. So could we be seeing something similar in live-action soon?

Daredevil

With a new season of Daredevil looking likely on Disney plus, and that cameo appearance from Charlie Cox as the really good brick-catching Lawyer Matt Murdock in No Way Home, fans are desperate to see the return of this character as part of the MCU, it’s only a matter of time. Will we see him up against Wilson Fisk once more, let’s hope so.

Midnight Sons

Now with a few characters making their arrival in the MCU that form the Midnight Sons, should we be getting excited about a new team? With characters such as Moon Knight, Blade and Dr Strange, alongside the likes of Ghost Rider and even ya boy More BS. Imagine the scenes when ‘Its Morbin Time’ pops open the multiverse again and spit him out in the MCU, the stuff of dreams.

Wolverine

Now finally, apparently a Wolverine Anthology TV Series is reportedly in the works at Marvel Studios. Very little is known about this project at the moment, but early signs do indicate that it could be a major part of Marvel’s mysterious plans for bringing mutants into the MCU. Reportedly opening in the 80s following the Weapon X storyline, we could potentially see each episode cover a major part in the timeline bringing us fully up to date. But that’s all just speculation at this point, it sounds great in theory and I can’t wait to see if and how they approach this one and to find out who will be taking up the iconic role.

Wonder Man

Lastly, is Wonder Man which was just recently announced, first teased in the making of Wandavision, he’s reportedly getting his own show very soon.

Ok, so that finishes up the confirmed and rumoured slate of movies and shows in the works by Marvel Studios and Disney Plus, if we missed anything out or you have heard any other rumours feel free to let us know in the comments, also let us know which of these you are looking forward to the most and how you see things tying in.
