CAPTAIN AMERICA 4 Brave New World Trailer Breakdown | Easter Eggs, Hidden Details & More

Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show! I’m your host Paul, and in this video, we’re breaking down the trailer for Captain America: Brave New World.

Throughout this video, we’re going to go through the Easter eggs, hidden details, and things you might have missed. We’ll also discuss how it links in with the comics and what happens in the Red Hulk storyline.

I was supposed to be at the Deadpool and Wolverine early sneak peek screening today with Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, but Marvel decided to drop this as well. Unfortunately, work comes first over me swanking about on a red carpet trying to pitch my Squirrel Girl movie. Hopefully, you guys enjoy the breakdown, and please hit the thumbs up if you do.

With that out of the way, thank you for clicking this. Now let’s get into a brave new world.

So this picks up in the aftermath of several events across the wider MCU. There are plot threads here that have been dangling for decades, and we’re finally getting the return of some characters. The first of these includes Tim Blake Nelson, who will be starring in the film as the Leader. All the way back in The Incredible Hulk, he got hit with some Hulk blood. This has turned him into the big villain, and it’s gonna be interesting to see where we go with him. Liv Tyler is also back as Betty Ross, and her father’s now being played by Harrison Ford.

He’s now President Ross, building off the back of the events of Secret Invasion. There… sounded like a one-term president and yeah… crisis averted mate, the Skrull-human war is over, time to just chill out Nick Fury and go into space.

On top of this, we’re also gonna have some characters from Falcon and The Winter Soldier, with Sebastian Stan returning as Bucky. Danny Ramirez will join him as Joaquin Torres along with Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley. Julia Louis-Dreyfus is here as Valentina, and we’re getting the additions of Sabra and Diamondback. They’re played by Shira Haas and Rosa Salazar respectively, and yeah, it’s a big cast of characters from over the years.

Now Sam goes in to see President Ross and says how he’s not used to the new look. They do a little joke here about how he’s shaved his moustache, which is why he looks completely different. This is, of course, a little acknowledgment about how they had to recast the character after the passing of William Hurt. It also kinda gets rid of one of the big criticisms in the comics in that people didn’t understand why the Red Hulk didn’t have a tash. After dragging out the mystery for years and years, we finally found out that Ross was the character. When transforming, though, his tash disappeared, which people were like huhhh. I will talk about the Red Hulk storyline more in just a bit, but this is sort of a nod to not only the recast but also the comics.

It’s also clearly doing the nudge-nudge-wink-wink thing they did at the start of Iron Man 2 when Don Cheadle replaced Terrence Howard. Honestly, I think it’s a great way to handle it, and it also leads into the next meta thing.

Ross is aware of all the good that Sam’s doing and he wants him to help him rebuild the Avengers.

I think one of my main criticisms of the last couple of phases is that we haven’t really had that movie that ties it all together.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD CONNECTIONS TO THE MCU

Phases 1-3 set up several characters and then they crescendoed with a big movie that brought it all together. That’s been completely absent since Endgame though, and because of this, it all just feels like Marvel’s lost its cohesiveness.

However, we now know that Wong has been added in as well and that his mission will be about bringing them together too. During Shang-Chi he, of course, was meeting with certain other members and clearly building bridges with Shang.

We know from CinemaCon this is gonna be a big moment in the movie as they then led into a press conference with several world leaders. Isaiah Bradley and Torres are there along with Sam, and Ross gives a speech about how the pair have made the discovery of the millennium. This comes from a Japanese mining village, and I think it’s gonna be revealed to be Adamantium.

MyTimeToShineHello posted recently that Adamantium in the MCU absorbs radiation, which makes it highly effective against any Hulk. It was apparently discovered in the form of liquid, but Japan has been turning it into a metal.

Just this week, Kevin Feige announced that Deadpool and Wolverine is the X-Men’s introduction to the MCU, but I do wonder how they’re tying stuff in. Japan hasn’t really had much attention in the MCU beyond a couple of scenes. So them adding this in is kinda following the usual thing where a country is found to have a specific valuable mineral.

Kinda like what they did with Vibranium and Wakanda. Beyond that though, in the comics, Adamantium is actually an alloy, so it’s gonna be interesting to see how they include this in the movie. I dunno whether it’ll be naturally occurring or if they’re gonna bring it across in other ways.

Now according to MyTimeToShineHello, the Leader is then supposed to attempt to steal it and he attacks the meeting. Playing music over speakers, this activates sleeper cells within the room akin to The Winter Soldier. This includes Isaiah Bradley, who begins attacking the president. It’s Sam vs Isaiah Bradley, with the latter escaping. We don’t really know what happened to Isaiah when he was in jail and he may have become a weaponized super soldier. This is something that of course happened to Bucky, and we know Hydra was attempting to make more in The Winter Soldier.

As for Sabra, there’s a lot of back and forth online about what exactly is going on with the character. We do know that the Serpent Society was originally supposed to be in the movie, but according to Daniel RPK, they’ve now been removed. When Feige announced Captain America 3 that came with the title Serpent Society and though it’s now being said it’s a joke, you do wonder. We know Batman V Superman made Marvel make Civil War and they are constantly changing things.

Kinda sucks ’cause Seth Rollins was hyping it up and it would’ve been interesting to see him. Release the Rollins cut.

As for Sabra, there were some accounts saying she’d been removed as well, but I’ve been unable to verify this. Now the controversy surrounding it comes from the fact that she’s an Israel state hero akin to how Captain America’s used for… well, America.

There was even a fan movement saying if she’s in it we ain’t buying tickets.

She’s explicitly pro-Israel and obviously in today’s current climate, it could cause a lot of controversy.

The issue is that there’s not really a way that Marvel can win with it. If she leans too much to one side in that she’s pro-Israel, then it’s gonna cause issues with one group of people, and if she’s critical of her government, then it’s gonna cause issues for another.

The movie is, of course, still not releasing until February, so a lot could change. However, from all that I can find, she is still in the movie, but they’ve removed any references to any ongoing conflicts. I still wonder if they’ll remove her completely, and they of course changed the original title to move away from real-world things.

Now we do know that there’s been 22 pages of reshoots added into the movie, and this has added in Giancarlo Esposito.

Playing GW Bridge, he was first introduced in X-Force 1.

A major in S.H.I.E.L.D., he’s an expert in hand-to-hand combat and the use of firearms. Because of his network of spies, he also has alleyways into any part of the world he’d like to gain access to.

GW Bridge set up Six Pack and he’s sort of a shady character. I do wonder if that’s how Sharon Carter’s gonna come into it, and as we know she was the Power Broker. He may have even been the person on the other end of the phone but yeah… there’s lots that we don’t know.

Other than he’s called George Washington Bridge.

There’s even the thought that he might replace Nick Fury due to Samuel L. Jackson getting older. Though he still looks great, mate, guy’s 75 so there have been theories that he could replace him in the role.

Now when we last left Joaquin Torres, we saw him eyeing up the Falcon wings with this foreshadowing what’s gonna be happening to him. In the comic, he takes over the role of the Falcon and even goes through some weird stuff which… congrats mate we’re gonna talk about it.

This story all started off in Captain America: Sam Wilson Issue 1 where he was kidnapped by The Sons Of The Serpents. Sent to Karl Malus, he was experimented on and turned into a falcon-human hybrid. Was a weird arc mate ’cause Sam got turned into a werewolf and yeah… them comics mate woo.

I don’t think they’re gonna go that way in the movie but you never know. Either way, we know he’s gonna be wearing a sort of green combat suit that’s akin to his one from the comics. However, to me, it also takes clear inspiration from the Vulture with it being more like a jet fighter pilot suit. Really excited to see Torres in the movie as he was one of the cool things to come out of Sam’s Captain America run.

Now as for Steve Rogers, I do have a feeling that he will show up in some form or another in the movie. The last time we saw him in the flesh was for Endgame and then they joked about him being on the moon in Falcon and The Winter Soldier. In the comics, we got an older version of the character, but it was during Sam’s run that the age got reversed. Through some cosmic cube magic, he was made young again and though I don’t think they’ll do that, they may do something similar. There have been loads of

rumors that Chris Evans is coming back, and I do think that we’ll be seeing him in Secret Wars. So I think this movie might tease his return but that’s just a theory time, theory time, theory man out of time… man out time, theory time shirts available below the video.

Now I also think we’ll be seeing further seeds planted that lead to the Young Avengers. Eli Bradley was introduced during Falcon and The Winter Soldier and it makes sense to further lay some seeds here. The Marvels ended with a tease towards them and we could build out and create that from this movie.

Now as for the Red Hulk, he first debuted in Hulk issue 1 in 2008. This came in the aftermath of World War Hulk in which Bruce Banner had been locked in a Hulk gamma base. One of these appeared in X-Men 97 and they’re built to contain Bruce underground.

However, something strange was happening as there appeared to be a Hulk-like figure on the surface destroying things. During this time, Ross was also apparently killed though this was revealed to be a life model decoy. There was a lot of mystery around the character as, like I said, no one really knew who he was. This was the first real Hulk in which we had no idea who he was when he hulked down, and Ross’ death threw in a red herring.

Betty Ross also became the Red She-Hulk, which is something they could do in the movie.

COMIC CONNECTIONS TO CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD

Now how I think this might tie in with the greater MCU ties in with the Intelligencia. Introduced during She-Hulk, they were trying to get some of her Hulk DNA. We saw with Todd how this gave him the powers of a Hulk and maybe Ross has managed to get his hands on it.

However, we also don’t know what the military seized when they grabbed the Leader’s experiments, and perhaps they’ve had this all this time. Ross was able to make the Abomination, and thus we could possibly build off that back of that.

I did think that the Leader might have been the one behind the group but turned out it was just Todd. I think. No idea what’s canon from that finale ’cause the fourth wall breaking thing might have retconned the whole bit. Either way, in the comics, the Leader was part of them and I think with him being the villain that’ll make sense too.

Now the Red Hulk started off as a villainous character, but he eventually became good. This got to the point he joined the Avengers, and he’s been a hero pretty much since that initial arc.

Before Civil War 2, Ross was arrested for deserting his country, which is something I don’t think will happen.

They’re clearly just skipping that for the whole movie, but I do wonder if Ross is gonna go back and forth. I think Sam having to fight the president while being Captain America would be a big way to take things.

Now in regards to the movie itself, there’s been a lot of controversy around the scenes surrounding it. On top of that, the movie’s been delayed multiple times with there being reshoots on top of reshoots on top of reshoots. Gonna be like the most expensive movie of all time, so it’s gotta be good right? Early test screenings called it meh and… Capmid Midmerica, and this kinda dropped during that big Marvel restructuring. Several shows were delayed like Agatha and Ironheart, and we had Daredevil being reshot from the ground up.

Now while this normally spells doom for a studio, I’m glad that they looked at their work and said that they didn’t think it was good enough for what fans expect.

Hollywood is going through a tough time at the moment in terms of box offices and even big movies aren’t guaranteed to make big money. So I actually appreciate they’ve gone back and reworked things even though the optics of it might look like they’re panicking.

I even think they might have reworked Sam’s suit so it’s more in line with Steve Rogers’ version. Early images of it look a lot different and it looks like they’re constantly adjusting to fan feedback.

And yeah, I think this is gonna be really solid. Harrison Ford is obviously a massive addition and I think he’ll be a big talking point around the movie. It’s rare that he puts his name to massive franchises like this and though he’s led some of them from the front, it’s rare, if ever, that he joins them when they’re ten years deep.

Having him as General Ross is also a really big character move and the Red Hulk storyline is absolutely brilliant. I think if they can bring elements of that into it, it’ll create a great film to kickstart Sam as Captain America.

I know Falcon and the Winter Soldier did it, but I’m talking the big screen. This is a massive test for Sam, but it also highlights the political aspects of the movie. Having the president in it as one of your big threats could make this akin to something like The Winter Soldier. I still think that’s one of the best MCU movies ever, and I’m really hoping they go a similar route. With like political thriller with a big… big Red Hulk man.
