Avengers Endgame: Deleted Scene Breakdown

Just when you thought Avengers: Endgame couldn’t make you cry anymore, it’s come back to social media with a new boyfriend like your ex-girlfriend who left you cos you spent all your time crying over Avengers Endga…look the jokes don’t always work.

Anyway, with the release of the digital and physical copies of the film right around the corner, Disney have slowly started to release tidbits from the film including an emotional scene that will make you love the movie 3000 once more.

Throughout this, I’ll be breaking down the scene, what we can take from it and why it was cut. There will be heavy spoiler here so if you haven’t had a chance to watch Avengers: Endgame and don’t want to know what happens at the end of the movie then I highly recommend that you turn off now.

With that out the way let’s get into my breakdown of the deleted Avengers: Endgame scene.

Ok so first let’s watch the scene so you can see how it plays out.

I’m not crying you’re crying. So, it’s a pretty heartbreaking moment that really has a lot of people questioning why it was cut from the film. The scene takes place immediately after Tony Stark has carried out the snap and it shows all of the Avengers paying their respects to the legendary character that started off the MCU and pretty much became responsible for how the landscape of movie-making is today.

It really is an emotional moment that unites the entire cast around his sacrifice and social media reactions are praising it for just how well it plays out. Another thing that the scene does is that it also confirms that Gamora is still alive and that she has decided to go her own way.

When Tony carried out the snap, many were unsure as to whether this annihilation of all of Thanos’ forces included her and the original cut left it ambiguous as The Guardians Of The Galaxy were still looking for her. This clearly confirms that Gamora is still alive and out there and also that she’s got so much sass still.

Damn you couldn’t hang around for like five minutes after the party, what the hell dude?

Why Was It Cut?

But why was this scene cut? I mean the internet love it and it seems like it would be one of the best parts of the film right?

Well, Joe and Anthony Russo recently spoke with USA Today, and said the following about its removal:

“It’s a beautiful scene with moving performances, but we filmed it prior to Tony Stark’s funeral. The funeral scene ultimately became a more resonant and emotional reflection on Tony’s death for us.”

So this makes a lot of sense I mean it probably would be a bit too on the nose to get one scene where the Avengers pay respects to Tony and then another one immediately after. The funeral scene that did make the movie is actually being quoted as the most expensive film shot ever due to the number of actors that all appear in it. This happened on the one day of the year where everyone’s schedule was free and cost Disney a bomb so it makes sense why that was chosen over this. I mean the Iron-Man 3 kid can’t be cheap right.

Anyway, overall this is an awesome extra and definitely feels like the kinda thing that will make people pick up the Blu ray so I’m glad we got it.
